Designs or reviews and validates new automotive suspension components or modifies existing
components according to ZF Sachs’ and customer’s guidelines and specifications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Designs or reviews and validates design of innovative, cost-effective automotive finished product
•assemblies using a library of standard components
•Requests the design, analysis and testing of components that are not available in the library of standard components but are necessary to build a finished product from the CoC Group.
•Breaks design requirements down to a component level and provides them to the CoC Group to have components designed that meet customer requirements on the finished product.
•Creates test specifications based on customer requirements for the finished product.
•Apply available analysis tools for design of new components.
•Marks up component and enditem, sub-assembly drawings. Submits mark-ups to CAD department.
•Checks drawings for correctness after they were created/changed by CAD department.
•Releases drawings in document control system.
•Updates/creates/checks/releases enditem/sub-assembly BOMs.
•Provides interface with customer’s engineering on product design, prototype development and cost reduction recommendations.
•Interfaces with manufacturing on product design / manufacturability and tooling requirements for finished goods.
•Directs building and testing of prototype hardware.
•Generates DVP&R’s. Submits test requests to testing department.
•Schedules tests with test department for on-time completion.
•Writes R01 Engineering Reports and enters into SAP. Presents validation test results to customers for approval.
•Maintain Component DFMEA’s.
•Analysis of test and field return parts.
•Ensures all product designs comply with customer and ZF quality programs.
•Develop strong working relationships with customers conveying both professionalism and strong product knowledge.
•Maintains internal communication with Global Project teams (North America, Germany/CoC Group)
•Maintains technical skills.
•All Other Duties As Assigned
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
•Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline (Mechanical Engineering preferred)
•Ability to provide creative and practical design solutions to meet customer specifications typically associated with 2-5 years’ experience in an Engineering position. Preferred experience in damper design and/or development.
•Advanced reading, mathematical, written and verbal communication skills, mechanical, engineering and technical skills.
•Able to learn and use product specific calculation software and data management software.
•Good planning and organizational skills.
•Strong computer skills in PC based office software including Excel and Power Point.
•Ability to travel and work on an international basis
•Strong interpersonal skills, work well in group environment
